Match your organization’s branding
Even as online payments become more commonplace, there are still those out there who are cautious about Internet transactions. When it comes to donations, some still fear that an online gift will go to a fraudulent source, and not their intended cause.
Because of this, it’s important that your online form matches well with your organization’s branding. Whether it’s the overall color scheme and logos for your brand or an established campaign or event, making sure that they line up will help supporters know they are in the right place. Your form designer should make it easy for you to match this branding.
The right amount of text
Most forms should have some explanation included with them. For example, donation forms will want to remind visitors what areas their gift will benefit. Or, an event registration form will typically share the date, time and place of the event. You may also want to include certain text throughout the form to explain why information is being collected, or to clarify any complicated fields.
The balance that must be found in the right amount of text. Offering too little text may leave your supporters confused, but too much text may leave them overwhelmed. Either of those feelings can get in the way of them completing the form. If you do require a lot of text, having the flexibility in your form designer to format it clearly and cleanly becomes very important.
As mentioned above, some forms will need a lot of text explanations, while others will need very little. Similarly, certain forms require just a few fields, while others need to be longer and more complex.
Basic form designers often give you only one formatting and style option. But in many cases, you will want something more powerful to produce the most successful online forms. You should be able to insert text wherever it is necessary. For longer forms, it’s also helpful if you can group together fields to make it more intuitive for your supporters to fill-out.
